The Bent-Ward & Foster House — a historic Kansas City landmark entering a new era of restoration and storytelling.

Where History Meets What’s Next

Set in Kansas City’s Sunset Hill neighborhood, the Bent-Ward & Foster House has witnessed nearly two centuries of change, from frontier trade to modern city life. Now this historic estate enters a new era, blending preservation with purpose and heart.

The Story

Originally home to figures such as fur trader William Bent and developer Seth Ward, the property sits on land tied to the Battle of Westport and the early growth of Kansas City. Today, under the care of the Foster family, the home is being thoughtfully restored with a vision that honors its past while bringing it forward for the future.

The Fosters have opened their doors and invited others to share in this journey. Their respect for the home’s legacy and willingness to preserve its history while embracing thoughtful updates make this project especially meaningful.

Projects like this reflect what matters most: collaboration, craftsmanship, and a shared appreciation for design that tells a story.

The Vision

This is more than a renovation. It is a passion project for both Henedine and Matthew Foster, coming to life in two phases.

Phase 1 focuses on the Carriage House, transforming the secondary structure into a guest retreat and wellness space that blends heritage with modern comfort.

Phase 2 begins with the Main House, where the focus will be on the main level. The goal is to update the home to modern standards while preserving its architectural integrity and historic detail. Every decision is made with respect for the house’s story and a desire to ensure its character is protected for generations to come.

The Team

This restoration brings together some of Kansas City’s most trusted professionals in building, architecture, and design, including Homoly Design + Build, Apex Engineers, and NSPJ Architects. Each contributor shares the same commitment to craftsmanship, authenticity, and respect for the home’s history.

As the project progresses, new partners will join this collaboration, bringing expertise and innovation to one of Kansas City’s most significant restorations. We’re partnering only with those who share our commitment to quality, design, and legacy.
